Laundry Day

So normally on the weekends we pick one morning to catch up on our household chores and cleaning. Now my eighteen month old son loves to help run the vacuum and mop the floors, Molly prefers to just stay out of everyone’s way along with my husband and Miss Lilly loves to help with the laundry.

Don’t worry mom I’ll get this one…

She likes to help take the clothes out of the basket and “sort” them while I am gathering them up. Her favorites seem to be her baby brother’s clothes and for some reason my husband’s dirty, stinky socks!! She will literally sort through the entire basket just to grab these items.

What? They don’t smell that bad & they taste great!!

She also enjoys helping me put the laundry in the washer and taking them out of the dryer. She sticks her head right in so she can properly supervise.

No mom this goes with the darks not the whites…

And of course she pitches right in to grab the warm clothes from the basket and re-fold any that she feels I didn’t do correctly!!

A Basset’s work is never done!

Does your family all pitch in to help around the house? What are there favorite chores to do? And can someone please explain the love of Bassets & stinky socks!!

Pool Time

pooltime

We had an extra fun & relaxing weekend. We finally got the girls pool out so they could splash around and play. Of course they also thought it made a really nice big drinking bowl!!

Miss Lilly also got to enjoy some deck time working on her puppy tan. Afterward we all enjoyed some barbecue and then a relaxing stroll around the neighborhood. Hope everyone else got to relax and enjoy the weather too!!

Basset cat

So recently I have become convinced that my little girl Basett hound is part cat. I have tried to figure out how this has occurred since we do not have a cat in our family so I have come up with several theories on the matter.

1) She must have been close to a cat when she was still with her litter mates and learned these skills there. Or maybe she had to climb over her bothers & sisters to see what was going on.

2) She secretly has been watching neighborhood cats while out instead of doing her business, which also explains why she wants out right after she comes in. Also explains her uncanny camouflage and stalking abilities.

3) She has been googling them because her sisfur dared her to, also explains why Petsmart, Petco and Basset Daily are bookmarked. We have also started receiving monthly Barkbox, coincidence, perhaps.

4) Miss Lilly is just a typical goofy Basset hound who likes to give her mom heart attacks by taking daredevil leaps on and off things she isn’t supposed to. She also has problems seeing do to short legs.

So does anyone else out there have a dog that  thinks they are a cat? If so do you constantly worry about falling and back problems? Do you wonder where they got their skills to? I think we need a support group!

Lilly Jane

This is a little history about how Miss Lilly Jane came to be with our family. I have always loved Basset Hounds and apparently I hinted enough to my husband that he finally decided to get one! We got her right after Christmas about a year after we got Molly Sue. Miss Molly rode with us to pick her up and was not convinced we should keep her. Lilly cried until we stopped to pick up puppy food and my husband held her and then she went right to sleep! She has been a daddy’s girl ever since.

Lilly was much harder to train than Molly was, she has quite the stubborn streak mixed with just the right amount of attitude. After a few carpet chewing and potty breaking incidents she began to come around with the use of her crate. Molly hated being crated and still does but Lilly was ok with it. She doesn’t use it much anymore mostly because she has her “own room” (our guest room). Lilly is quite the proficient snuggler and can put almost anyone to sleep once she settles in for a good snug. She has no problem jumping in with whoever is staying with us either! (Yes you must love dogs to stay with us!!)

For some reason Lilly is completely unaware that she is not as big as her sister. She seems almost like a ferocious guard dog if you didn’t know any better, however if she feels scared she immediately looks for big sis and runs underneath her! Molly humors her and for the most part is pretty patient with her but we sometimes still get the ” I told you not to keep her look”.

Lilly is for the most part a typical, comical ,sweet Basset with a little extra energy! She enjoys destroying anything that squeaks, squirrel chasing, following her big sister around and being the center of attention at all times. She also enjoys being called a princess!
